The Diaconate's mission is to minister to those in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress, and to equip the church to extend mercy and justice to our neighbors in Astoria.  The role of the Diaconate is to lead a congregation in its ministries of mercy.

In Matthew 25:35-36, we are commanded by Jesus to feed the hungry, quench the thirsty, clothe the naked, invite the stranger in, care for the sick, and visit the prisoner.   In 1 Corinthians, the gifts of helps is mentioned as one of many spiritual gifts given to the members of God’s church.  In James 1, we are warned to be doers of the word, not just hearers.

The Helps Ministry is one of four arms of the Diaconate at Astoria Community Church.

The mission of the Helps Ministry team is to provide and coordinate practical help for those who need it in a way that points them to Christ.  We believe this is one way to live out the above scriptures.
