The Diaconate's mission is to minister to those in need, distress, the sick, the friendless, and to equip the church to extend mercy and justice to our neighbors in Astoria. The role of the Diaconate is to lead a congregation in its ministries of mercy.
In Matthew 25:35-36, we are commanded by Jesus to feed the hungry, quench the thirsty, clothe the naked, invite the stranger in, care for the sick, and visit the prisoner. James 1 warns us to be doers of the word and not just hearers, and one of the many spiritual gifts given to members of God’s church is the gifts of help (1 Corinthians).
The Helps Ministry is one of four arms of the Diaconate at Astoria Community Church. The mission of the Helps Ministry team is to provide and coordinate practical help for those who need it in a way that points them to Christ. We believe this is one way to live out the above scriptures.
To sign up to be on the Helps Team, please complete this survey. Those that sign up to help will be added to a database and when there is a need, we will match up the need with the specific help offered.
If you have a specific practical need, please email Kim at helps@astoriachurch.org or call the church office at 718-721-3440.
If everyone helps a little, many people will feel loved and be helped! Thank you for participating in this vital aspect of being the family of God.
