Holy Week Plans

Cross and Sunset

ACC Family:

Our usual plans for Holy Week have obviously changed this year, but the truth of the gospel message is as powerful now as it ever has been.

I want you to know some ways to stay connected with the church in worship and prayer this week.

  • Maundy Thursday (April 9) – Join us for an interactive worship experience, as we commemorate the final Passover meal that Jesus celebrated with his disciples. The service will involve Scripture reading and prayer at home and a prerecorded video on YouTube. The service is designed to be experienced as part of a group meal, involving the lighting of seven candles with various people reading Scripture. If you are sheltering with family or friends, or if you can organize a video chat gathering, you may want to plan ahead so that you can create a group experience. You will also find the experience very meaningful to do on your own. Pastor David will be offering a Zoom gathering at 7PM on Thursday to experience this service together (details will be emailed separately.) The link to the service material and to the video will be posted on our website later this week. The video will become available by noon on Thursday.
  • Good Friday (April 10) – Worship the Lord with us via a prerecorded YouTube video service, as we remember the price Christ paid on the cross for our redemption. The link to the service material and to the video will be posted on our website later this week. The video will become available by noon on Friday. The Presbyterian Church in America (our church’s denomination) is inviting us all to join in a day of fasting and prayer on Good Friday. I hope you will consider seeking the Lord with us in this way. Please see here for an article with more details.
  • Easter Sunday (April 12) – Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Join us for Resurrection Day worship on YouTube. A fellowship time on Zoom will take place after worship at 12:30pm. The link to the service material and to the video will be posted on our website later this week. The video will become available Sunday morning. A link to the Zoom gathering will be sent by email to the ACC family.

As always, let’s keep each other in prayer during this time of social distancing. If you need prayer or assistance with any practical matters, don’t hesitate to contact us. You can do this by emailing diaconate@astoriachurch.org or by calling Andrea Mungo at 917-605-4040. Also, feel free to contact me personally at 917-992-7062, if there is anything I can do for you.

In Christ we have living hope!

Your brother,

Pastor David Ellis
