ACC’s Safeguarding Team and Policies

At Astoria Community Church (ACC), we believe that all people deserve to be treated with dignity, decency, and respect. After all they are created in God’s image and created for His purpose (Gen. 1:27, Gal. 6:10, Eph. 2:10). We also believe that everyone at ACC is entitled to a safe place to worship and serve. So we are committed to protecting everyone in our church and ministry environment from harassment and the abuse of power, and responding appropriately to any concerning or harmful situations with care for any who experience mistreatment.
In support of these beliefs, ACC has instituted a Safeguarding Team (ST) that reports to the Session. This team is responsible for implementing our Safeguarding Policy (abbreviated policy and full policy), training all ministry volunteers (leaders/staff and all over volunteers), and educating the church on abuse, harassment, and discrimination. Our 2025 continuing education video required for all volunteers is here. It is our hope that an educated congregation is one where abuse and harassment are less likely to occur.
The members of the ST are Andrea Mungo, Anna Peters, and Buddy Mungo. You may contact any of these team members with any questions you have or to report an incident. We also have 2 reporting forms - one for harassment, discrimination, abuse or abuse of power and another for incidents with children or youth. You may also use the Safeguarding email address (accsafeguarding@astoriachurch.org).
