If you feel same-sex attraction …

Question: If you feel same-sex attraction, does that mean you are gay?

Answer: Not necessarily. I recently read a blog by one Christian man and an interview with another, who both feel sexual attraction to other men. (The man in the interview happens to be one of my favorite preachers – a pastor I deeply respect.) Both men explain that they don’t identify themselves as homosexual and don't feel the need to do so. They identify themselves as Christians – Christians who struggle with a certain temptation, but who with God’s help are living obedient lives of celibacy. (They both affirm a biblical sex ethic – the view that sexual intimacy is to be reserved for marital relations between a man and a woman.) I really appreciate how both of these brothers recognize that their identity is not determined by the desires they feel. Their identity is Christ. This is a truth we all need to discover.
